Up early packed and checked out of our hotel. We were at the Rijksmuseum at 10:15 for our timed entrance. If anyone knows Dan this is not a 45 minute visit to just see the highlights. No we start on the first floor and move from room to room using a phone app when the work of art has some associated audio to understand the painting or display of armor or decorative wood desk or chair. We finally leave the museum at 3:00. We have to walk to the office of the company that is running our canal tour. This is an eccentric type of tour not your “gray line” tour with the guide pointing out monuments etc. there were 10 passengers and a guide. It was about the experience and learning about Dutch culture and people. A great trip and a lot of fun. We put away a bottle of wine after all it was happy hour. Had great conversations with 2 other couples who each put away their own bottles. Actually learned a few things about the Dutch.
Then a walk back to the hotel to pick up our bags and catch the train to Leiden. This will be our first use of our eurail pass. Guess what it worked perfectly, we were both surprised 😃😃😃
Our take. We loved Amsterdam, a clean walkable city. Mistakes learned, don’t lose your train pass and make reservations if you want to see any museum or venue in advance. Don’t wait until the last minute. We hope to be back because we feel there is lots more to see and it is a great city. Maybe next time even a church or two. Great weather is ending tomorrow there will be rain in Leiden.
OK. I mis-remembered the story. WTF ARE YOU???!!!
ReplyDeleteDan's lucky to be married to you. I did the National Native America Museum in under 2 hours last week with friends.
OH ... Amsterdam?
ReplyDeleteLaurie had the same problem with the museums last weekend when she was there. She is a "what can I do this weekend" planner, so she will relate to not being able to get tickets at the door. I'm glad you had a good time! We loved Amsterdam as well. Scott ran a 10K in Leiden! I walked around and took pictures. Lovely town. Thanks for posting and letting me live vicariously!!
