Castles

A little late on my journaling. Out of Munich we did a full day trip to see the castles of King Ludwig II.  The first stop was Linderhof. This was the first of 3 castles he built.  In his lifetime he spent most of his time there. It was a small home and not built as a fortress as many of the castles were built. The area is remote as Ludwig did not want to be around people which caused problems for him since he really didn’t want to be King and was forced into the role at age 18.   Lots of exciting gossip about him, his life and death.  The second castle we saw was completed after his death.  

Neuschwanstein is a fairy tale type castle. Rooms upon rooms, stairs and stairs and stairs.  Was wondering why we were doing this tour.  The views are amazing rolling hills, lakes and fields.  There is another castle he built. Hohenschwangau. The good news is he basically took out loans for the castles they weren’t paid for by the state.   It was a very warm day and we returned to Munich at 7pm

The trip between castles allowed the tour to drive through the town of Oberammergau.  This is the town that presents the 8 hour long Passion Play that is produced every 10 years by the local residents. It is also a cute Bavarian town since many of the buildings have frescos painted on the outside depicting tales of Brothers Grimm or stories of the Bible.
